Once you master it, you can play pretty much until you fall asleep. It speeds up, but it does not speed up infinitely until you die.
Rounds are infinite, but the counter stops at 99. In advanced rounds, the initials from the hi score list are used as the starting configurations of blocks (a tribute to the best players). Later rounds put in obstacles like a configuration of blocks to start out with, and randomly appearing blocks. Each round requires a certain number of lines to be completed. To keep the blocks from reaching the top, complete full lines across, and they disappear. In a 2-player game, the losing player can continue playing by using another credit. When blocks reach the top, the game is over. A second player can join in and play along side at the same time. You can move them left and right with the joystick or default keys (arrows in 1-player mode).
Tetrises are made of 4 blocks each arranged as an L, a reverse L, an S, a reverse S, or a straight line of 4 blocks.
This is the original most popular (and most copied) video game of all time.
